Police allege young offenders sold stolen sunglasses back to owner

Lethbridge Regional Police report they have charged two young offenders in connection with a theft after a pair of sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle and then later sold on Facebook — to their rightful owner.

According to police, sometime overnight June 10, two people were car prowling in the Sun Ridge neighbourhood and stole two pairs of Oakley sunglasses from a vehicle. Reportedly, one of the pairs was later posted for sale on Facebook. The owner of the sunglasses happened to see the advertisement on Lethbridge Swap and Shop and purchased the glasses then contacted police.

Following further investigation by the Priority Crimes Unit, the subjects who police believe are responsible were identified. Yesterday, they were arrested without incident.

Police have charged a 16-year-old female and 16-year-old male, who cannot be identified, with theft under $5000 and possession of stolen property. The female is scheduled to appear in youth court July 31, and the male was diverted to the Alternative Measures Program.

Police also report that sometime overnight, culprit(s) entered a compound along the 4100 block of 28 Street North by cutting the fence. It is reported that various gauges of copper wire worth approximately $10,000 and various tools worth approximately $500 were stolen.
