Police have charged a Lethbridge man with multiple weapons related charges as part of an ongoing operation that goes back to June 2010.
Calgary police laid 104 weapons related charges and seized 16 firearms, including a machine gun, in June that resulted in four people being charged.
Investigators looked into the source of the weapons and on Wednesday, they issued search warrants for three locations and a vehicle in Lethbridge.
Police arrested one man in Lethbridge without incident and transferred him to Calgary where he was charged in relation to the June 2010 weapons seizures.
Daniel Francis Bennett , 63, of Lethbridge, is charged with nine counts of weapons trafficking.
The Lethbridge Regional Police Service confirmed that Bennett is a former officer who retired in 2001.
Police seized ten handguns during the execution of the warrants but have not laid any charges in relation to these weapons.
The investigation is ongoing.
